About Me

I consider myself a California native and almost forget that I was actually born in the Midwest since I moved away before I was talking. I grew up in a small farming town were life moved just a little slower. Even though we didn’t have much in the area of restaurants (we had less than ten even if you count chain fast food joints and the gas stations), I’ve always loved food. My mom is a great cook who cooked for us nearly everyday. College days in an urban and diverse community introduced me to all kinds of cuisine and food. Luckily for me, the Bay Area had so many food establishments ideal for the shoestring budget.

I met my future husband while in school over 15 years ago. We share a love the outdoors, food, travel and science. Together, we have started to travel a bit, trying local flavors everywhere we go. Among many other things, he is an honest critic, my best recipe guinea pig and the greatest dishwasher.

Our newest loves arrived in 2013 and 2016.  A beautiful girl and boy!  She’s got daddy’s good looks and he’s got mine.  They are discovering new things everyday, and they have made me see the world through a new lens and helped me focus on what is most important in life.

I enjoy my professional life, which is in health care at an academic hospital. The most rewarding part of my day is working with students and residents, teaching them what I know.

I appreciate food that is prepared well. I’m interested in learning the techniques that allow me to learn how to prepare classic dishes that are all-American as well as from my family’s Chinese origin. I love reading cookbooks, discovering new ingredients and being the scientist that I am, learning about food chemistry.

We make our home on an urban hill, with city lights twinkling more brightly than the stars in our sky. And although I no longer live in my small hometown, thankfully, our friendly neighbors and sleepy street doesn’t make my past seem so far removed.
