Wedding Recap

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010, our wedding day started pretty early with hair and make-up under way for the bridesmaids at 6AM.  It was a very windy morning, and I was hoping that it would die down before our outdoor ceremony.  I drove to our future home with my sister and bridesmaid and saw my dad, who usually lags behind, pretty much dressed and helping around in the kitchen, getting breakfast ready for the house-full  of people who were already there.  Of those people, my aunt and cousins were here from overseas helping with the preparations.

Memories of the morning: Forgetting my contact lenses at the condo. Tearing up, trying to think about the reception speech, Seeing dad all ready to go (for once!) hours before the ceremony started. Penny calling wondering where everyone was (all the girls were upstairs).  Seeing Cindy looking so great with make-up on.  The make-up artist dropping a brush with powder on it on our white carpet.  Watching the blustering wind in front of our house.  In tears, listening to B’s serenade.  Not knowing who to do during the ceremony.  Practicing our first dance in our bedroom….and it went perfectly!  Snapping at Binh because he and Gary were DRAGGING to get to the Prado.

At 10AM we were all dressed and ready for the morning ceremony to begin.  The groom’s family was ready to present a traditional offering.

Games for the groom and groomsmen included a round of ‘suck and blow’ push-ups, a burpee challenge, wall sit and serenade.

The tea ceremony began after we feed each other little pink rice balls in sweetened syrup to symbolize a sweet marriage and prosperity.

Elders were shown respect as we served them tea and accepted their good wishes and gifts.

The morning ceremony ended with a casual lunch of yummy egg rolls and Chinese food and pictures outside

The day continued at the Prado where I changed into my beautiful white gown with the weeding party at my side.  One of my most memorable moments was seeing my husband-to-be in tears when he saw me in that gown for the first time.  We held each other and he kissed my hand so sweetly:)

The ceremony was very short and sweet.  Some of our guests missed the entire thing since it was all but 15 minutes long.
